Independent study1

 Evidence!!:)

1.Log

I have been watching videos from the start, but I began keeping a log and taking notes of all of them, starting January 7th- Feb10th.
1/7,1/15,1/17,1/19,1/24,1/26,2/01,2/03,2/05,2/09,2/10

I mainly watched videos at service learning, and at home. I would watch numerous videos through out service learning, it was never just one video. Each video was either 30 min-1hr. The longest video I watched was 2hours. So in total 20 videos, plus the timing of notes, pausing the video, asking the midwives questions, and reviewing the notes again at home.
3. Complete the LIA:
Literal

(a) “I, Valeria Iniesta, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.”

(b) I watched a lot of birth videos! I saw many babies being born, and all the births were honestly very beautiful, I recall smiling through out the videos because the babies were so cute! Plus what the video meant and signified made me happy too!  I watched births in hospitals, I watched births at home, and watched births in water. (which could be at home too, or in a birth center) I saw all the birthing methods, and while I watched the videos I took notes, paused the video, asked questions to the midwives and jotted everything down.  At the end of every video I would summarize the video then compare it with hospital births.

Interpretive

The significant parts of my independent comp is the thorough notes I took, and at the end comparing both birth experiences, which is part of my goal for my senior project. Comparing both experiences so people know how different these births are and the benefits of midwifery births.  This demonstrates 30 hours of work, because half of the journal is full, its not just the 20 videos I watched, its the time I took to understand everything, write it down and review it all.

Applied

This most definitely helped me a lot answer my EQ! The independent comp served its purpose! I saw how nurturing the midwives were towards the mother, how well the baby reacted to the birth, and how much the midwife actually influenced the birth experience. The midwives supported the natural process, built a strong bond with the mother, and encouraged partner involvement. My independent component compared hospitals, birth centers, OB's and midwives.  These comparisons played a significant role in my EQ. These videos allowed me to see my EQ in a different perspective and that's how I was able to come up with my EQ answers.

  1. Hi Valerie- It would help me if you recorded a more detailed log of hours and what the activity was. Your notes are very complete : )
