Senior Project Reflection

Part 1:

(1)   Two hour presentation student assessment

I feel I deserve an AE on my two hour presentation because I met all the requirements on the rubric and I feel I had great audience participation. The students in  my presentation were intrigued and learned a lot, the activities were great, I felt many students did play the role well. The roles of a midwife, mother and a mother in labor. I may have been a little nervous at first but everyone is, and after a minute I shook it off and was able to inform the class while not making it boring. So in the end the students did learn a lot, which was my goal. They  really grasped the concept and I feel that they walked out knowing so much more on both sides of maternity care.

(2)   What are you most proud of in your 2 hour and why? 

I am most proud of the audience participation, I liked answering all their questions. They asked me questions after I was done presenting even during break. I felt that them asking questions showed their interest in my topic, and I know the fact that I stood their confidently and passionately about my topic allowed for them to become interested in midwifery. The students participation made me very happy and proud. Midwifery is not a popular or a familiar topic, so I thought engaging them would be difficult but it wasn't and I was very pleased with my audience:)

Part 2:

(1)   What do you think you did well on in the project? What could you have done better? Please explain.

I think everything went well in this project, my research was great, my I-search was good, and my independent components were good too. I especially enjoyed my presentation, I realized that I LOVE talking about midwifery. My favorite parts of the projects were presenting of the project like the 20 min presentation. Preparing for it may make me nervous but it allows for me to see all the quality work I have put into this project. Reading all my books, and driving all the way to Chino every week paid off! What could have gone better would have to be my science fair project, I really struggled on that I was not able to produce a quality project. I honestly think it took up my time, and feel that should be taken out for next year.

(2)   What is your EQ and what is the best answer to your EQ?

EQ: What is the best way a midwife can influence a birth experience? 

Best Answer: Educating the mother

(3)   How has the last month of culminating events (e.g I-Search, Two Hour, Exit etc) affected your answer to your EQ? Has it changed? Why or why not?

This last month did change my answer, when we were practicing for exit interviews and I was asked what is your best answer and why? I realized there that supporting the natural process was a great answer but not the best and I would get stuck with that being my answer to the question. At first I didn't even have educating the mother as an answer but after reviewing my interviews, research and talking to Mrs. Ortega I came to the conclusion that educating the mother was a key element in my EQ, and it allowed for me to connect all my answers.

(4)   What suggestion do you have in order to improve the senior project?

People need to work on their research, the quality of research will play a big role in the final presentation, so making sure they do good research and actually margin note it is important. I think that for next year the teachers should make it mandatory to check for 30,50,60 sources and grade it.
